DTBA reduces disulfide bonds faster than DTT

Clear

Description

dtba-1657M120  (2S)-2-Amino-1,4-dimercaptobutane hydrochloride

f.w.: 173.73 daltons

Overview

DTBA is simply the best reducing agent for reducing disulfide bonds. Approximately 20% of human proteins are predicted to contain disulfide bonds between cysteine residues. DTBA has thiol pKa values that are approximately 1 unit lower than DTT and forms a disulfide with a similar E value. DTBA reduces disulfide bonds faster than DTT, especially in neutral aqueous systems. The amino group of DTBA enables its isolation by cation exchange and facilitates its conjugation. DTBA is simply the best reagent for reducing disulfide bonds in aqueous solutions. Dibutylthioamine has very desirable physicochemical attributes. The HCl salt of DTBA is nearly odorless with a high solubility in water.
